10 IBU's EKG @ 60 minutes
2 IBU's EKG @ 5 minutes

OG 1.042
FG 1.011

Mash at 154 @ 60 minutes.

Was considering dry hopping with EKG, but I feel like it would be too hop forward. You guys think I should mash higher to balance the 5 minute addition or drop if altogether?

Haven't made this style before so I'm just piecing together what I've found online with what I like.

I just realized I hadn't posted it, too.

Going to try S-04 English Ale for the first time.

Might normally go with Nottingham, but it's a 1 gallon batch and just wanted to keep it really simple.

I would mash at 158. I just brewed a mild - 1.038, finished at 1.013.

I would probably skip the dry hop but would probably bump up bittering addition. 12 IBU's is pretty low, even for a mild.

Beersmith puts it at 20 something. I was trying to use an online calculator because my computer took a dump on me.

0.1 oz @ 60
0.1 oz @ 5

I don't know what the IBU's be.

Oh....did you mean HBU?

Anyway 20 IBU's is great, it's where mine is.

No, the calculator only calcs it out to 12. Beersmith calcs higher, so I dunno. I'm very tired so it's possible I'm wrong about it all.

How big is your batch? I use .75oz EKG at 60min and it gives me ~20IBU for a 5.5 Gal batch.

I layer equal parts of 60L and 120L with Chocolate for some roasty flavors and a touch of roasted barley for color and maybe the faintest hint of flavor.

I love 1318 for this beer. This and 1098 are my house yeasts. I mash at 150 and end up around 1.010 or 1.011. 1098 would take it down to 1.007 and had less British flavor.

Just a gallon.

Ok, now that I'm in front of Beersmith:

79.1% Maris Otter
12.6% C60
8.3% Chocolate

Mash @ 158

14.8 IBU's EKG @ 60
5.9 IBU's @ 5

20.6 IBU's

OG 1.042
FG 1.014
ABV 3.7%

You think it's too much roast?

I brewed this last weekend (and many times in the past). It's a fantastic beer.

Maybe I'll try to match that, then. Drop the chocolate a bit. I only ordered enough C60 for that addition I listed, but I think it should be ok.

It will be more like porter with than much chocolate malt. Can you get your hands on some brewer's caramel?

I have Baird's Medium Crystal @ 12%. I'm using that and going to drop the Chocolate to 3%, or so.
