No sense in starting there is you haven't gone through:
John Palmer: How to Brew

Cannman has it rite, How to brew has all the formulas for free calculating ( is what i've been using for over 100 brews) and Designing Great Beers is indispensible to me for coming up with beers nobody makes.

I have how to brew and am reading it for the third time. I'll have to check that other book out
