I made my first porter, extract, earlier this year and it was great. Now that I have moved to AG, I am going to try it again. Any ideas or criticism would be appreciated:

OG: 1.067
FG: 1.015
ABV: 6.7%
IBU: 40.1

9 lbs Pale 2 Row
.75 lbs Roasted Barley
.75 lbs Crystal 60L
.5 lbs Chocolate Malt
1 lb Flaked Barley

1 oz Northern Brewer - bittering
.5 oz Northern Brewer - flavoring
1 oz Cascade - aroma

The extract version was one of the best porters I have ever had. I'm adding the flaked barley this time for a little creamier beer.

Thoughts?

Both those are great suggestions. I use black patent in my porter and only Northern Brewer and it's the best beer I've made. I've had several people tell me it's the best porter they've ever had.

I would keep the cascade aroma hop.

+1 on using black patent instead of roasted barley.

I would double the amount of crystal and possibly add some Munich malt to the mix.

Would you then use Norther Brewer for aroma hops as well then?

Thanks for all of the ideas everyone.

No, I would maybe add more Northern brewer for flavor and drop the Aroma hops. Everything else looks good, what yeast do you plan on using?
