Twice now, I have had the lid blow off of my fermenter. One time I was making a pale ale with a 6.0 % ABV and used an air lock. The second and more recent time was with an imperial stoudt with a 10-11 % ABV and a blow off tube, I understand it blowing off with the airlock, but not with the blow off tube. What am I doing wrong?

Did you push the tub in too far? If it is in the beer it will not release the gas. Clogged? Maybe a larger diameter tube. If you pull the rubber grommet you might be able to force in a larger tube.

I cut the bottom end off of my air lock to use as a blow off . Cut it just above the slits and it will not clog up when you have a big fermentation . You still need the tube .

The tube was probably in foam. I got a lot of foam on this one when I out it in the fermenter. This was probably the problem. Thanks for the response.
