Hi all. I'm planning a build that includes 1 HLT 5500w element, 1 pump, and 3 temperature sensors. Before I order any parts, I thought I should post to take advantage of the knowledge and past experiences here and seek out some tips and/or corrections.

Any feedback would be helpful, much appreciated!

Personal preference, I suppose, but I didn't see the need for a bunch of manual switches and LEDs cluttering up my PI brewing controller wiring. I have one switch for the main contactor, and one switch for the PI board that is independent of everything else. I wanted to be able to run the computer without having everything else live in my enclosure. I use these relays for pumps, and as an AUX switch for the SSR input lines

Good point about the separate switch for the compy, I'm going to incorporate that! I initially planned for something much simpler, a touchscreen and no LEDs, but I brew outside and was a bit worried I might not be able to read the LCD well in direct sunlight. I started to think that some LEDs might be a good secondary indicator...and then I started to think they would look cool, too. I'm leaning towards using them, but we'll see when I really start finalizing the cost!

I've read conflicting reports re: controlling relays via the Raspberry Pi GPIO vs a board (ie terragady), so I appreciate the insight into a board and usage that's proven in your system.

Interested in how this turned out. Wondering really just about monitoring temperatures and what kind of probes you used. Won't be automating the heating or pumps at first.

Did you get the brew controller finished? I'm planning on doing something similar for BIAB. I'm looking for an enclosure that will house everything, including a 7" touchscreen display.

I'd like to see your setup if you did finish it.
