I tried searching for this, but most corona mill threads talk only about the mill, with mention of efficiency, but don't talk about the actual crush.
So, I finally got to use my corona mill for the first time this weekend, and after a few test grinds, adjusted the crush to where it closely resembled what I get from the brew store. The only difference is that, with my mill, the spectrum of uncrushed grain to completely pulverized grain was much wider. Naturally, the HBS has a much more consistent crush. If I had to guess, around 10 or 15 percent of the grain from my mill was completely untouched, and I could also see husks that were ground finely, neither of which appear in the HBS grain.
My efficiency came in at only 64%, but I had no trouble lautering or sparging. I'm sure I can increase the crush and get some more efficiency out of it, but I'm not really sure what to expect.
With the corona mill, should I expect to have a small amount of uncrushed grain, or is it possible to crush it all of the grain while avoiding stuck sparges? If anyone has pictures of their corona-milled grain, that might be helpful.
