Any idea what volume of liquid is contained in a standard 5 gal ball lock corny keg from the top line to the lid (or really to the in & out posts)? I o2 free transfer my beer through the liquid in, and over fill my kegs so that beer is literally flowing out of the PR. I'm thinking this lack of head space may affect carbonation.

The pace at which beer can be carbonated is related to how much beer surface there is to absorb CO2. If the only surface available to absorb CO2 is essentially in the IN dip tube, it'll take forever.

So it seems undercarbed it probably is.
