Has anyone found a better way to do this then in the attached picture? The tubing around the liquid out post is not fully sealed due to the thread spiral (could easily suck in some o2), and the hose on the 1/2" tri clamp nipple barely fits. There must be a "right" way to do it, but I haven't found the fittings...

Hi,
Get some Barbed Swivel Nuts for Ball Lock Disconnects 1/4" MFL. These are available from many suppliers.
Brewhardware also sells TC to 1/4" MFL adapters. Not sure if he has them smaller than 1.5" TC though, but you can check with him.

Silicone hose also works better. If its too tight like on your barb dip it into some hot water for a second.

Then I'd probably force a slightly smaller ID silicone tubing onto the barbs so I didn't have to use clamps:
