I'm in the process of building up an AG setup and I had a bit of a crazy thought:

Would it be possible to boil the beer with a lid on but with a hole cut in it and use a condensor to allow for removal of steam and DMS. I was thinking something like this, only bigger:

Just seems that something like this could help me limit the amount of steam and smells that will eventually percolate through the flat (and to be brutally honest I LOVE to bodge at things :rockin: )

There is a lot of work with limited evaporation in industry, but not much in the homebrew world. In order to make it work in industry, they typically use a wort spreader after some sort of calandria. Also look into New Belgium's Merlin system (made by Steinecker).
