I brewed an IPA kit, bittered with Columbus ( IIRC) simcoe and amarillo approx 3 additions 0.25 each if memory working? 5g kit.

I'm thinking it was either AHS or Northern brewer as they are my go to suppliers. Really loved the beer, lost the recipe sheet. Sound familiar to anyone? I really want to brew this again.

If not, someone suggest recipe with similar additions?

Hop additions look complicated, but you take 5 ounces (3 different varieties) of whole leaf hops, mix them all together and add a half ounce every ten minutes of a 90 minute boil. This is my version of Dogfish Head's 90 Minute IPA

Oh wow, that looks like something that would punch my mother! I was looking for something around the 1.060-65 range.

I'm tempted to try that as it is winter time, is that the DFH 90min or that is custom one? I never like the DFH 90, but preferred the 60.

EDIT: I see you confirmed that as I was typing.

MWS has their Amarillo pale ale. Its not quite an IPA, and doesnt have Simcoe, but it does use 1/2 oz Columbus for bittering and two 1oz doses of Amarillo. I have this in primary right now and plan to dry hop it with either 1/2 or 1 oz of Citra leaf. OG was 1.055.

You could use three ounces of hops ( one of each variety) and do a half ounce addition every ten minutes beginning at 50. (50,40,30,20,10, flameout) Tone down the grain bill to about 1.060, and that's pretty much 60 minute IPA

Here's one I do that works out good.

1.070 OG, 1.012 FG roughly. 7.5% ABV

6# MO
3# Vienna
3# Munich
.5# C20
.5# C40

I do 1oz of something at 60/20/10 and .5oz at 5 and FO. You can up those for more, but I dry hop with 1-2oz for a week or two.

Mash it around 149-151, whichever side of the spectrum you want. I like 149-150 for my IPA's as I like them dry.

Do the columbus at 60, and then do the other simcoe and amarillo when you want them to. Amarillo will be more fruity and peachy, the simcoe will have a little pine in it. Pick your poison!

It turns out good.

I use the same recipe and made a DIPA off of it, changed the munich back to 1 lb, and added it to the MO. Then I used somewhere close to 9oz of hops for the boil.

Just make your own recipe! IPAs are easy, and a good way to start getting your feet wet in building your own. You already know which hop combo you want to play with.

I agree with you 100000000% I Really wanted to re-do this recipe though, and the simcoe was hard to come by so I wanted to brew something I knew I already liked. I just lost my notes...

I'm just gonna play it safe with:

That's exactly what I'd do with that recipe.. Looks good otherwise though.

This came out wonderful by the way, although even though it I still a hair green it is what I would call a summer IPA. The amarillo just adds a wonderful flavor I associate with the warm summer days of grilling and cutting the grass. It's been awhile since I used this combo.

I'm going to save the rest of these hops for then.
