Hi Folks

I'm am not a novice, but it is first time I met this issue.
It happened after dryhop with Centennial and Zeus - the normally easy-to-clean-off yeast ring on the inner side of ferm bucket wasnt look like a dry yeast.
This time it looked more like a ring from a hardened fuel oil which I could not get off with a dish sopa and some other diswasher liquids.
Instead i could only smear it all around even gently tried by thumbnail.
Finally found the way to get rid of that , had to use fireplace glass cleaner which worked smoothly and well on that.

My question - is it normal for some hop varietes has such effect, or should I worry about it and dperhaps dump the batch?
The beer itself smells ok and tastes great.

I attached couple of pictures how it looked like.

Hop oils. DO NOT DUMP the beer unless it is finished, aged and deemed undrinkable.

However, depending what is in the fireplace glass cleaner, I might discard that bucket.

I use oxyclean, soak overnight and that stuff should wipe off easily. Others use PBW.

Here is a datasheet:

DETERGENT INGREDIENT
DATA SHEET

Chemical name
Water
Potassium Hydroxide
POTASSIUM HYDROXIDE
2-(2-ethoxyethoxy)ethanol
ETHOXYDIGLYCOL
Alcohol ethoxylate, 13C + 3 EO
Sodium N-(2-carboxyethyl)-N-(2-ethylhexyl)-β-alaninate
Sodium iminodisuccinate

At first glance I cant see anything dangerous, just seem need clean bucket with dish soap well after that.

Can you spot anyting alarming for bucket disposal?

i mean, that datasheet clearly doesnt say "safe for human consumption" and you dont know if the plastic picked up any of those chemicals...
pbw and a carboy cleaning brush usually takes care of my hop sludge ring..

If you washed that fireplace cleaner off really well, it's going to be fine, don't panic. The sodium hydroxide (lye) did the work. It's also dangerous for the skin and eyes, and there's no need to go to these extremes.

Some dissolved PBW (homemade or bought) will remove krausen rings. It's the sodium metasilicate it contains that does the majority of the work. Use a nylon brush and scrub/soak, scrub/soak... Just don't use anything that will scratch your plastic bucket.

In general you should not use soaps or (hand) dishwash detergents on brewing equipment as it may kill head retention of your beer.

Thanks alot to all, guys, for your explanations and sharing the experience.

Learn some today, especially about dishwash detergents effect on head retention (thanks IslandLizard).
Cheers!

i just had the exact same thing with a belgian i did, ive never had it happen and its a PITA to clean off.
