we bought a beer kit for Black Lager from homebrewing.com and wanted to make the flavor a little bolder. This is our first brew. Not sure if you can add something to a premade kit or not.

People 'hack' kits all the time, although there's often the suggestion that first timers brew kits straight.

You could make it bigger by adding extract+hops (or just use less water for a smaller batch). Lots of people add fruit, coffee, vanilla, spices, etc. to kits, although I personally think those usually make beer worse.

This is our first brew.

Don't mess with it. Not to sound rude, but you should stick with a couple 'tried and true' recipes before you get creative. Get a little experience under you belt, and you'll understand better how the addition of more malt, hops, spices, or different yeasts will interact with an existing recipe.
