Hi guys i and about to make myself a CFC and want to know if you need a pump to use it or can they be gravity feed, i intend to end up with a gravity feed system if i can just to cut down on the cost but only if this can be done.
Thanks Dean

I've gravity fed with a CFC for a while now with no problems.

But...just brewed with a pump for the first time today and I have to say that it definitely improves the flow rate through the CFC. Keep in mind, however, that increasing the flow rate leads to higher output temps.

I also use a hop bag so I don't worry about clogging the CFC. Definitely a good idea.

A good whirlpool, post boil, will force the trub into the middle, so no worries about clogging the CFC. And yes, gravity is fine.
