I have a question. occasionally bottle carb my mead and wine. Usually , I simply add a half teaspoon or a full teaspoon of sugar to 12 oz or Grolsch bottles. just bought a pack of carbonation drops (Brewer's Best) and the pack states that there are approx. 54 drops inside at a weight of 256 g. That's equivalent to each drop weighing almost 4.75 g. If there are 128 fl ox in a gallon and one drop is meant for one 12 oz bottle so 1 gallon fills about 10.5 bottles. That means we are carbonating with about 50 g of sugar or about TWICE what most folk would choose to use. What am I missing? Are those drops not a recipe for volcanic eruptions?

I use 1 for a pint and 2 for 750 ml. They carb just fine. I do occasionally get a gusher but that is rare and I think may be due to first or last bottle off the batch. Some end up with more yeast than the rest.
