I am making a toolbox control panel, a combination 110/220v for two brew setups. I am going to make the input removable. I got an outlet from work, four prong, nema L15-30-R. I know this is 3 phase, but can I wire and use it for 240 single phase? Two hot leads, neutral, and ground. Leads are marked X Y Z and ground. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Look up the L14-30R commonly used in generator hookups for 240vac.
You can wire the L15 the same way; it is almost identical.

thanks so much. I wasn't sure if they were different internally. I figured it came down to how you wired it.

It won't blow up or anything. It is made differently and labled with a specific voltage to keep things from getting accidentally connected to the wrong voltage supply. That most likely won't be a concern with your project.
