Hi all

I am new to wine making and wondered whether I need both Campden tablets and wine finings. And also what is the difference as some recipes don't use finings.

Help would be appreciated

Thanks
Ryan

Campden tablets serve a couple of purposes. It serves as a deoxidizer and a sanitizer.

Finings are used to aid in getting the wine clear. The wine normally clears just fine once fermentation ends, so I only use it as needed.

Thanks for the advice, is it worth buying some then just incase?

Thanks

You can, but I rarely use finings and rarely need them. Since the wine will be in the carboy for a long, long time you'd have plenty of time to purchase them down the road if you need them. Plan on the wine being at least 6-10 months old when bottled.
