Just bottled my fifth batch. Recipe is inconsequential. I forgot to sanitize 9 bottles. They're going to explode, aren't they? I have glass grenades in my garage.

What was previously in them? If they are brand new bottles from a store you will probably be okay. If not then you do run the risk of an infection. I would open one up in a week to see. If it's already really overcarbed or smells funny then you probably have an infection and would just need to dump those 9 bottles.

Or if you don't want to do that, wrap those 9 bottles in a trash bag in case they do explode but I would definitely recommend checking one in a few days-week.

If you rinsed them, they're probably ok. If anything you'll get gushers. You won't get bottles exploding. That really only happens when you bottle before it is done fermenting.

Do you have a neighbor you don't particularly like? *fire in the hole*

I'm just kidding. While I'm not 100% positive, I'm pretty sure the only time you'll get exploding bottles is under a severe case of over carbonation. I've had a few bottle bombs but they never actually exploded.

Perhaps to be safe you can do what I do, and cover it with something. In the event you do have a glass grenade, it'll be a super easy mess to clean up. No harm no foul.

They were rinsed and icy cleaned for label removal today. They're marked and bagged. Wifey wants me to hand them off to my boss. She's hella vengeful when she wants to be.

None of them will explode unless you primed them heinously wrong. They might gush, or darken during conditioning... that's about it

No no no... You'll be fine. RDWHAHB. Yeah... That's it...

Really though, they'll probably end up tasting like kettle corn.

I use a calculator, two actually. 3.6 oz for 4.75 gallons.

I'm just really pissed at myself. I switched from dunk sanitizing to spraying. Forgot to spray a whole run, remembered nine bottles in.

Did anyone else read the part about bottles exploding in the garage and think Shraderbrau? Sorry OP, hope your beer turns out fine.

No. Elaborate.

I'm sure it's okay, I was tipsy and pissed at myself. Bad combo.

In the show Breaking Bad, Hank Schraeder makes a batch of homebrew he calls Schraederbrau. He wakes in the middle of the night to exploding bottles in the garage. Thinking someone is out to get him he goes into the garage gun drawn to find it's his exploding homebrew.

If you are going to do that:
  1. Don't give him all "bad" bottles. Give him one or two good ones.
  2. When he complains that you are trying to poison him, give him one of your good bottles.
  3. Keep some bad ones for yourself that he can sample so he doesn't think you did it on purpose.
Here' why: he gets nine bad ones, asks you what is this sh!t?, you play dumb and say here try one of mine. He wants to try a couple of other bottles of yours to be sure. If boss is any good at statistics, he can show with 95+% confidence that you gave him sh!t on purpose.

Oh, and don't p1ss off wifey!

Brew on :mug:

Aha! I have not gotten the chance to watch it. Not kid friendly, although my oldest daughter is on season four or five and insists that it's basically made for me.

If by icy cleaned, you mean oxy cleaned then you're probably fine. Oxy clean is basically the same stuff as One-Step which is sold as a cleaner and sanitizer in one. I don't think it's the best at sanitizing, but it must work fairly well because people used to use it a lot for that purpose pretty successfully. I think you'll be fine.
