California breweries

Hi everyone I live in Canada but my wifes family lives in Murieta in California.

We go out there every winter for a vacation I was wondering where are some good breweries to tour around there.

Anyone from California or anywhere that knows some good places around there please post. Disneyland is getting old.

There's a crapload of wineries. You really want to hit breweries? How far are you willing to drive?

If you're in Murieta, you've got to hit Stone in Escondido, and Port/Lost Abby in San Marcos.

I assume you're talking about Murieta (southern California) and not Rancho Murieta (northern California).

You can take Brewery Tours of San Diego. They'll take you to 3 different breweries. Or, you can just check out the website to get a list of the different breweries in the area and set up tours on your own.

If you're in Murieta, you've got to hit Stone in Escondido, and Port/Lost Abby in San Marcos.

This is your best bet from Murietta. I can't think of anything too interesting in the inland areas where you're at, but Stone really isn't that far and it is world class. Lost Abbey has limited hours I'm sure, but it would also be worth stopping by.

Oh! Green Flash is up in Vista too, I think. Totally worth checking out.

There's also Pizza Port in Carlsbad if you want to drive further. Beyond that, you get into the rest of SD, and it gets to be more distance.

The SD brew tours are cool, but when I look at the lists, I always think I'd get stuck going to a brewery I wouldn't care about. The Friday one includes Lightning and Karl Strauss (both yuck), Saturday has Oggis and that's not very fun, and Sunday has SDBC which I think is boring. I'd just plan my own trip.

STONE BREWERY

I have been to many breweries, and Stone has the best brewery tour by far (about an hour and a half, actually explaining all of their equipment and the process. Also, they love if you ask questions and know a little about brewing--I think it to be a bit refreshing for the brewer who actually gives the tour, not a PR person).

They also have a world-class bistro and beer garden that make for a very fun and filling few hours.
