Planning on doing a simple Porter with slightly smoked and roasted butternut squash. I'm not planning on using any spices, so it isn't really a play on the pumpkin beer craze. Just wondering if anyone has any experience using butternut squash and can give some advice on how much to use and the overall usefulness of it as a stand alone ingredient. Thanks in advance.

I make a butternut squash beer every year. Use at least 3. Cut, roast, peel, and toss in with the mash. Rice hulls are a good idea.

Thanks. That info will really help. I was trying to decide whether to put them in the boil or purée and add to the FV. I'm liking the mash idea a lot.
