My first kit is the block party amber ale from northern Brewer. Beersmith has it coming in at 3.7% ABV.

Is there any big effects of adding a LB of dextrose to bump it up to 5%?

Thanks

It will thin out the final beer significantly. Also with all of that simple sugar the yeast may get lazy and not eat the Maltos. I would add DME/LME to bump it up if you can get it. :mug:

Block Party Amber Ale should come in at 4.3% to 4.6%. What is the attenuation for the yeast entered in Beersmith? US-05 or WY 1056 will have the highest ABV for a couple of neutral yeasts that are available.

If it were my batch I wouldn't. Embellish a little on the ABV, that will go farther than adding a pound of sugar.
