The "Water Primer" thread stickied to the top of the Brew Science forum.

Using the recommendations from the Water Primer is a good starting point. Another important resource would be the Water Knowledge page of the Bru'n Water website. That should help you to understand the Why and What of brewing water chemistry. Then consulting the Bru'n Water software can help with the How.
