Building a Water Chemistry Starter Kit

My friend's birthday is coming up, and I thought that it would be great to build him a Water Chemistry 'Starter Kit' with the essentials (besides the Water book).
What would your starter kit look like?

Get him a little plastic toolbox or some such. Add:

Calcium Chloride
Epsom Salts
Gypsum
Pickling lime
Baking soda
Lactic acid
Pipettes of some sort to measure lactic acid
Small 1-oz plastic cups or similar
electronic gram scale

If you really want to go whole hog:

pH meter (Milwaukee MW-102 is what I have)
calibration fluids
TDS meter
