Building a mashtun

Quick question: can I use brass or plastic fittings while building a mashtun. I am building mine from a 10 gallon rubbermaid cooler. Stainless is so expensive but I don't want to kill my wort by being cheap. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

Brass and CPVC plastic are both fine

I'd just buy a cooler kit from www.bargainfittings.com and call it a day. It will come with every thing you need for bulkhead portion of your build. Chances are you won't be able to find all the pieces you need at a big box store and will have to make multiple trips. Time and gas are money. Just my two cents

I agree. Just order from Bargainfittings and you will do it right the first time. Stainless isn't really that expensive when you are willing to buy a 40-60 dollar cooler...
