I brewed Ed Wort's Robust Porter (2.5 gallons) on Saturday with a yeast starter. Eight hours, on the dot, fermentation.
Since the beer blows off a lot of krausen, I used a 5-gallon carboy. The krausen basically doubled the size of the wort. It was pretty awesome, actually. No blowoff tube needed, though, thanks to the large carboy.
I noticed yesterday, though, that my airlock wasn't bubbling. I could sort of peek inside (the krausen created a heck of a wall on the carboy) and see the top layer of the beer bubbling a bit.
I imagine the beer is still fermenting, but I don't think I've ever had the airlock not making any noise. Is that because there is so much extra space in the carboy?
Thanks, everyone!
