I just got a replacement probe for my Hach pocket pro +. I carelessly broke the original 4 months after purchase. They replaced it free of charge so I'm not complaining, but the probe looks different in 2 regards. Here's a pic

The glass ball is mounted higher up than the original suggesting that it might break easier. Also the probe is not completely full of water leaving what appears as a bubble, which I didn't notice in my first probe. Is it possible that the free replacement they sent me didn't pass as rigorous testing as the original?

I installed and calibrated and found it to be at least as stable as the original. Here's my measurements after cal, for the 4 and 7 solutions and for a sample of the beer I was drinking, the Nickel Brook Headstreet IPA.

I didn't take a reading until 10 to 15s after immersing the probe, and then I watched for 1.5 to 2 min, except where noted. It seems pretty stable to me. Should I be concerned about what I'm perceiving as "defects"?

Life will present plenty of problems for you to worry about but this isn't one of them. All that is necessary is that the bulb contain enough buffer to cover the end of the business end of the wire when it is in the normal use position (upright).

You do have to be careful. The glass in that bulb is very thin.

Good stuff! That's exactly what I was wondering.

LOL! You've mentioned it many times and yet I still managed to smash this thing trying to jam it into a shot glass. Kid gloves from now on for sure. I'm very please with Hach Canada, they had this shipped up from US Fedex free of charge 4 months after my original purchase.

Do you get nailed for duties/tax when you order from Hach Canada? I've been ordering from the US and having the stuff shipped to Vt. It is luck of the draw I know but I always seem to get the Jedi customs dudes when I do that.

I just pulled up my bill from Dec 2013. All prices in CDN,

121.00 Merchandise
19.00 S&H (Fedex, Duty if any would have been here , I think)
15.73 Tax, HST specifically.

It appeared to have shipped from Canada, IIRC. The replacement probe, OTOH was not on the CDN website and shipped from US.
