Hi all,

Am doing my first recipe found from Brewer's Friend and had a question about when to add hops on the boil:

If it says to add, say, Target hops at 90mins, does that mean to boil the hops for 90mins or to add them at the 90min mark?

Thanks

If the boil is 90 minutes add them to the start of the boil, if the boil is 120 minutes add them after 30 minutes of the boil

What recipe are you doing?

Hop timings are always specified as minutes before flameout (end of boil), as what happens to their flavour is proportional to the length of time they are boiled.

So it's your first option, boiling for 90 minutes.

Looks yummy [emoji39]

Thanks - we'll see!! Interesting that chocolate has been added to the fermentables - I have just put it in the mash tun and see what happens.

Cocoa nibs will be going in the secondary but I'll put a teaspoon or two of cacao powder in the primary vessel as well for a little extra.
