Quick question. Is brew in a bag all grain brewing just using a bag to strain off the wort? So can you do this instead of haing a false bottom?
Thanks

Its a bit more complicated than that but in a nutshell, yeah, mostly. I just started biab, its definitely a step up from extract/steeping grains. you'll just need a bigger pot and a bag & can jump in.

I use the biab method for partial boil, partial mash brewing. Works great for that to me, since I can still use the same 5 gallon (20qt) SS kettle I started with. I use a smaller kettle for the dunk sparge.

Thanks guys. Was asking because I have a unique system that I am setting up and not easy to put a false bottom. So was wondering info could just place in a bag and use the bag to filter. Would it be possible to due all grain with just using the bag to help create the filter bed?

Technically, BIAB is a one vessel mash/boil method. If you are talking about false bottoms, I would assume you are using second vessel for mashing.

However, you can mash in a tun with a bag instead of a false bottom and it works fine. You will just need to alter your sparge method, unless you have the ball valve set up.

I like to dunk sparge in a smaller kettle of 170F water for ten minutes or so. My OG's went way up as a result.

I have a ball valve setup. I was just looking to use the bag instead of false bottom. That would be a good setup for me and work great.

I have a 5G round cooler with a braid that I do most of my mashes in. But with grain bills over 12 lb or so, I've been using a rectangular cooler with 2 paint strainer bags in a modified BIAB. It worked well in the 3 higher gravity batches I did last fall/winter.
