For anyone who has made the Bourbon Vanilla Porter recipe:

The recipe says to use "1.5-2.5 oz/gal of Maker's Mark." It is later mentioned that, if you want to use vanilla extract, start with 2 oz.

Am I to understand that these are fluid ounces or are they dry ounces? Anyone know?

Ive made this 3 times, good recipe I would use real vanilla beans 3 or 4 split beans for 5 gal, find them online vanillabean.com
I used 1/2 of a pint of bourbon you pick the brand

last 10g batch I spilt 5 gal vanilla porter, 5gal vanilla burbon

but to answer your question liquid ozs for liquids,

Thanks! I'm not brewing this until the end of July so I was just evaluating my options. I'll probably go with real vanilla beans in the end.

I figured it was fluid ounces, but I wanted to be sure.

Did you use 1.25 lbs of chocolate malt or just 0.5 lbs?

something like this next time I will use lees choc. something like .75lb,, it comes out really darker than a porter almost to a stout in color..
