bottling gallon and half gallon jugs

Has anybody else tried this and what were the results? Tried this with my last batch and had a bottle break, fortunately it was in a five gallon pail so no mess. Unfortunately I lost a gallon of hefewiezen. This was supposed to be an alternative to bottling a bunch of 22 qnd 12 ounce bottles.

It's just a guess, but probably the geometry and thickness of the glass of those jugs just can't take pressure? They aren't usually filled with pressurized liquid in any event.
