Bottling from carboy

You might consider priming drops or carb drops or whatchamacallits

I don't think this answers your question.

I pour a solution (or is it a mixture) of priming sugar and water into an empty carboy, then rack the beer from the fermentation vessel into the carboy, letting the swirling action of the beer mix the sugar solution.

I've done it but only when it was used as a primary with good headspace. So if it's up to the neck you won't be able to add your priming sugar without it over flowing.

What I would do (just thoughts...) is siphon out a bottle or 2, set them aside, add boiled priming sugar, swirl with the siphon gently a bit, just enough to mix it around. Continue to bottle the rest and then bottle prime the first couple I set aside.

Orr if you have a spare carboy you can what above said, and do whatever with what didn't fit from the added volume of priming sugar. ACTUALLY, you'd be losing the bottom trub from racking, so I doubt you'd have any leftover.

I'd rack to another sanitized vessel, if you bottle from the carboy with all the sediment you'll find it quite a bit more difficult time. Just rack into your kettle (if you've got absolutely nothing else) or another carboy and add your priming sugar then (I boil mine in about a quart of water first to dissolve it then add), to save mixing you can also rack your beer onto the priming solution and the flow will mix the priming solution for you.
