Just saying $9 for a BA Stout made at a contract brewery almost makes Jacks Abby prices look bad.

I don't think this was made off-site. They had posted photos of them pulling the barrels to blend a few weeks back. Also, I stopped in to pick up bottles and the guys were saying it's probably not going to hit draft this year. Sounds like most, if not all, of this year's final blend is being sold in bottles (both there and eventually in distribution).

Did you try it?

Also, by "on sale" I meant "available for sale" vs. "discounted." I saw their update about the bottles rolling off the line, but hadn't seen an announcement that they were available for purchase.

What is going on over at trillium? Today makes a week of being closed but they bottled on Friday and did a distribution run. Something wrong on the inside?

Apparently issues with the ABCC. Not much else is known.

JC posted this last week:

Hey All,

Sorry for the silence here, but Esther and I took some much needed time off to spend with the family for the holiday. As for today/tomorrow, we'll need to remain closed. We feel terrible that people have made a trip and found our door locked, whether it was a miserable walk through the rain and wind from South Station or a long drive out from Connecticut. Terrible. We're sorry we haven't shared any information, but we had hoped we would be able to get things resolved and back on line pretty quickly. Sadly, we're going to be closed again today and tomorrow but are doing our best to get open next Tuesday 12/2 for our regular business hours. I'm not going to go in to detail here, but we had a visit from Boston Police on Saturday and a subsequent visit from ABCC on Tuesday. We're going to be unable to open until the situation is resolved, which obviously was tough with the holiday week. We have a good and open dialog, so hopefully we'll get this behind us as soon as possible. We all want to be open even more than you want us to be, so trust me that we'll let everyone here know immediately when we have updates. thanks everyone for your support JC&E

No updates except for "we're still closed" as of today.

Damn, I heard it was rumors of full pours and underage samples but a week + seems aggressive for a place that only gives samples

Wow. Looks like Trillium reeeeeallly ****** up.

We’d hoped to have resolution before making a statement, but feel like we need to shed some light.

Our 2014 license renewal application was never processed. Nobody was aware of this fact until recently, the timing of which was unfortunate given the holiday. We’ve provided all documentation and complied with every request. We had a hearing today to approve or disapprove our 2014 license. We haven’t received a decision yet.

The reason we haven’t responded to rumors until now is because we honestly didn’t have all the information up front, and didn’t want to fuel any fires. While the issue is pretty simple, it’s also quite serious. Everything is when dealing with the government. We didn’t feel that the situation could benefit from social media and, to be honest, it’s painful enough to live through not to mention continue talking about it every day we’re closed.

While we’re incredibly appreciative of your desire to help, please don’t contact the ABCC or the City of Boston. We are hopeful and confident that the ABCC will respond fairly and we’ll have a positive outcome as soon as possible. We can’t tell you how much we appreciate the support, and we’ll desperately need it WHEN we reopen, but right now we don’t want anything to jeopardize our business, our lives, and the future of Trillium for us and our 10 employees who’ve been out of work for 2 weeks.

We both hope to see you and thank you for your support as soon as we’re able to open our doors. You’ll know the second we do! (Oh, and our website went down because of a massive flow of traffic! Thanks for all of you concerned enough to check in.)
Cheers, Esther & JC

Saw that. Hope they come out unscathed, not sure of the details, but you'd figure someone over there would be paying attention to something this ******* important.

It's BA, so it explains it, but I am kind of stunned by the response from people on BA saying "thank god it was a minor issue blah blah blah". This is like the single most important component of your business, and, well, what JC basically told us is that they have been selling alcohol without a license for 11 months. That's kind of an issue. I don't know how you explain that other than extraordinary incompetence in running a business.

I dont even understand how both sides were oblivious for the entire year.

I'd thnk the state would be all over them earlier, just because I imagine any state wants their money and to justify their existence, etc.

Trillium said they submitted the paperwork (likely with payment) it was just never processed.

I think both sides could've done better. But taking this long hurting small business is unacceptable. The license shouldve been hurried along as I dont see any fines or penalties being issued here.

That is not, in fact, what JC said. Re-read the post. He did a super good job of being completely non-specific about what happened. He never once said that the paperwork actually got submitted on time or whatever. Maybe it did, maybe it didn't. We don't know. But it doesn't matter - that doesn't make a damn bit of difference. Some idiot on BA just posted something to the effect of "it really comes down to if it was a clerical error or something on Trillium's side."

No it doesn't. It's his responsibility to be licensed as a business. That permit is a piece of paper with a date on it. I believe (could be wrong) that it even legally has to be DISPLAYED. If he didn't get it back, they HAVE to be aware of that, and they can't sell alcohol to the public. There's no way around that.

I can totally understand the state being oblivious for a year. It's a bureaucracy. As I said before - it's Trillium's side I'm concerned about here. There's absolutely nothing that explains not realizing you don't have a valid permit for 11 months besides utter and total incompetence as a businessperson. Great brewer, nice guy, but if he's handling the business side, perhaps that needs to change.

My mistake. It sounded like he submitted it and the ABCC never processed it

It did, in fact, sound like it. But it was hard for me not to notice how carefully phrased it was.

Yeah very carefully crafted statement by JC.

And i agree with whoever said this isnt a minor violation here. Everyone is acting like it's no big deal get a license blah blah. They sold alcohol for almost an entire year without a license.

I'll still fully support them when/if they reopen...... I hate to phrase it like that but who knows the ABCC could penalize them... No one knows all rumors for now. All we know for a fact is they havent been closed a while and that gives me sad feelz
