Still new to this brewing. I have been brewing Brewer's Best Kits and boiling the 2.5 gallons to make 5 gallons.
The recipe calls to boil 2.5 gallons while adding everything in. Is it going to hurt my ending results Taste? OG? if I boil all 5 gallons of Wort?
Do I need to change up the recipe from the kit if I do boil 5 gallons.

Please help a NEWBIE!!!

Doing a full-wort boil will have some impact on how much bitterness you extract from the hops, but no so much that I would worry about it.

The bigger question is whether you are going to be able to bring five gallons to a boil, and how you're going to chill. Most kitchen stoves struggle with this, which is why so many homebrewers get a propane burner (or build an electric system). Five gallons, you aren't going to use an ice bath very easily, so you'll want either a wort chiller (simple immersion chillers work fine) or look into no-chill brewing (which I have no experience with).

But, as to the recipe, you could get brewing software and see how the change in boil volumes impacts the IBUs from your bittering additions, but I personally wouldn't stress about it. What kind of beer is it, anyway?

Going to brew Weizenbier. We have the pot and the propane burner. Home made a wort chiller.

You'll need to adjust your hopping schedule to account for the full volume boil. You also will need to boil 6 gallons if you're shooting for 5 total after the 60 minute boil.

a free tool that gives some rough guidance can be found on hopville.com. go there and "create a new recipe," you can use that to dial in your hop additions for the proper IBUs.
