Hey all-

Just trying to calculate my boil off rate. Very easy question that I think I already know the answer to, but do you start the timer once you achieve boil? Or do you start the timer as soon as you turn the heat on?

Thanks.

are you referring to figuring out the evaporation loss in your system? when i do this, i start the timer when i turn on the heat and keep counting til it's been boiling for an hour. for brewing, you start the boil timer after the hot break, or when you add your first addition of kettle hops, whichever comes first. (i.e., 60 min boil with a 60 min hops add, i start when i add the hops. a 90 min boil with a 60 min add, i start the timer once i get the hot break.)
