My last two brews have been really good (as judged by others), comparing favorably to even craft brews. My wife picked my clone over Flying Dog Pale in a blind test, and my old partner raved about my Irish Red. I feel good about this, it's why I brew. (Not for compliments, to brew high quality beer)
Of course, coming off lunch with John, I went home to brew. It went pretty well until I tried to chill it. I made the chiller for a wider pot, and thought it would fit. But the pot has an inside rim, and I had to corkscrew it in, pushing with a spoon, into the boiling wort. Fun. I think I've had trouble free brew days, but not many.
I guess it's like sailing: the good days are worth the trouble.
