Soon I'll be staring a blackberry melomel. Just would like some ppls thoughts on oaking it. Should I do it, or not, when and for how long, dark or light oak?

Do it.
Do it soon.
For as long as it takes, bulk age at least a year.
Light oak, or none.
Just my thoughts. Regards, GF.

so i'm late to this party, but in case anyone is doing research on adding oak to a blackberry mead: i'd recommend not. blackberries (specifically the seeds) will provide plenty of tannins, no need to add more. one possible exception is if you crush and strain the blackberries and use only the juice - then oaking might make sense.
