BIAB Food Safe Bag

Looking for a food safe / food grade nylon bag for BIAB. None of the hop or grain or wine bags I find at my LHBS or online are large enough (well I found a few but they are very wide mesh).

I found a few people in AU that sell premade (one size) bags that are listed as Food Grade but they are slightly small for my needs.

Does anyone know of a source of food grade / food safe nylon or poly bags or even raw material?

Says coarse, but small enough that grain wouldn't get through. The fine mesh is so tight you can barely see through it.

That one is actually not quite big enough etiher :-( The diamater of my kettle is 16.5, so I would need a bag with a 52" opening or 26" wide at the opening to be able to make it over the lip.

I suppose I could get 2, and stich myself.

I recently picked up a package of these, which fit my turkey fryer kettle perfectly:

They're just nylon, so after sanitizing I imagine they're safe. Only used them once so far, with no off flavors or anything. Can't beat the price too!

I am not sure on the food safeness (or more specifically the chemical leeching form paint strainer bags or voile material)

I was really hoping for something that passed even some rudimentary level of testing to be deemed "food safe" at mashing temps. I know the material exists (since I have seen smaller bags advertised as food safe or food grade) and I know other food type things that come in nylon (like tea for example). I just cant seem to find a source the material or find a premade bag that will give me the 52" circumference I need.

Yea, a lot of people are clearly using voile and paint strainer bags, but I looked for a while and there's no information on their food safety out there.

These filter bags are the only thing I've seen online that says FDA approved for food, but they aren't that big, and I don't know if there's any way for consumers to order them.

You could make something out of stainless steel mesh like this

But chemicals are used in making steel mesh too, though I imagine you could clean it pretty thoroughly.

The paint strainer bags are Nylon, the custom BIAB stuff is usually Polyester Voile. I boil it for an hour after sewing, but I'm not particularly worried about leaching. I'm fairly sure you get more exposure to the same plastic from all the bottled water and sodas, etc. that are in PET bottles.

I ended up ordering a bag from mashmaster in Australia - it was much more expensive than the alternatives but I took some comfort in the fact that they specifically state "Our bags are manufactured from food grade nylon"

I received it this week, the bag is well made, plenty large enough for what I needed and looks to be a very fine mesh - its translucent but I cant see the holes with my naked eye.

Will be giving it a trial run with my first BIAB / all grian attempt tomorrow!
