I have one sour going right now in one, and have used them before up to a year for some of my ciders/meads. I prefer them to glass now, the reduced weight and safety factor make them my bulk aging vessel of choice.

Agreed, I can't imagine anything worse than breaking a glass carboy with year old sour beer. Any small amount of Oxygen that gets through won't be an issue (barrels are more porous than better bottles).

Berliner Weisse for about 6 mo, and a sour going now that will be sitting a year. Several beers in the Berliner better bottle with no signs of infection.
