Hi, i just tried an acrylic sightglass and it softened and warped, what would be the best tubing to replace it with? a bit worried about toxic stuff leaching into the beer.
Cheers

Extruded acrylic tubing is only rated to 180°F, and cast is only rated to 200°F.
Otoh, polycarbonate tubing (lexan, for example) is rated to 250°F. A clear winner.
It would still be wise to provide effective heat shielding if used on a gas fired rig but at least the hot liquid alone won't deform the sight gauge.

fwiw, my sight gauges are glass so they aren't going to deform but left unshielded the heat plumes from under the bk and hlt can get them boiling...

Cheers!

If you are using a keggle with propane, be cognizant of the chime relief/drain holes. You do not want a valve or a sight glass to be directly above one of those holes. If you aren't using a keggle, or you are on electric, ignore my statement.
