best location for fermentation chamber

I am building a fermentation chamber out of a chest freezer I am wondering what would be the best location. My garage or basement

If it were in the garage, are you installing a means to heat the fermentation chamber?
The additional energy consumed due to heat transfer will not be too extreme if it is in the garage, (small insulated freezer). But a careful trip down a set of stairs into the basement might be the better route. Get one of those carboy carriers if you ferment in a carboy, carboys are made to slip out of our hands when we hold them with one hand around the neck!
