Hello everyone,
I was talking to my girlfriend yesterday and she wants to help me brew something "fun". Can anyone give me some advice on brewing a "fun" beer? Thanks.

Maybe a blonde or cream ale. They are fun to brew up and great for hot weather.

The SWMBO mentioned adding fruit. Would it be possible to add strawberries or raspberries to a cream ale? If so, how many #s would you recommend?

I'm not a fruit in beer guy so I don't know except it will work in well to some ginger beer. Ginger beer can be perceived to some as being a bit bitter. You may wish to venture in that direction after sometime spent brewing.

I think I'm going to try to brew some type of ginger wheat beer. Maybe an ounce or two of grated ginger to the boil or the secondary.

For 7.5 gal I use 2#of fresh, non-dessicated ginger. I run it through a processor with the hide on it. I let it drain though a sieve into a bowl, then put the pulp into a BIAB or hop sock and squeeze it out. The pulp is added at 60 min in the bag. The juice is added at 30 to 20 min with lemon and lime (2-3 each). I do hop additions but no longer use spices, hops can do a better job IMHO.

Ginger beer is a lot of fun to brew up and a blonde or cream ale isn't a bad starting point. I may also add dextrose but not always, it seems to have an inherit clean crisp snap to it.

Forgot to mention that a few of us use the term Ol' Lady. Old school.

So how much ginger should I use for a 5 gallon batch?
