I came into an industrial mixing bowl and I am wondering if I can modify it to function as a hot liquor tank.

All I should need to do is get a ball valve in the side. But I'm concern the natural slope isn't going to work with a weldless fitting. Thoughts?

The bowl looks like this:

These are very unstable when full of liquid- I'm a chef. Are you going to mount it to something?

Great point. I had not thought of that. You likely just saved me from a very unfortunately brew day fiasco. Thank you.

If I solve the ball valve conundrum, I will find something to mount it to, or secure it in some fashion on the burner.

Assuming that you need to build it into a rack of some sort, what about a weldless fitting right on the center of the bottom?

I'm not sure that would stand up to direct firing on the burner.
Are you suggesting that I heat in a different kettle and transfer it over?
Or would a weldless fitting stand up to the heat?

make a mount for it and then put a valve in the bottom like a sep funnel .
Or if you put that valve to the bottom on the side it is going to slant way inward unless you press the side to a flat spot in that area which would most likely require heat and a home made press or a shop to do it . I think a pot would cost less in the long run .

With the right rig you could turn it into a tippy-dump. It's already got the mounts for it, just saying.
