I was just pondering the subject because i decided try this out with a 1/2 gallon growler, a filtered aeration system, a quart of wort, and two pretty old smack packs of Wyest california lager yeast.
I started a batch of organic lager, got the wort good and ready, but my smack packs had barely swelled after a day. I put about a quart of the wort (75 deg F) into the growler, then both packs of yeast, then the aerator, and loosely covered the mouth of the jug with a small piece of a towel i had soaked in everclear. I guess we'll see how this little experiment works, but i was curious if anyone else had done such a thing.
