After a year of brewing and bottling 17 batches now, i am considering jumping head first into kegging. I have a converted chest freezer for fermentation and plan to keep that for its current purpose. I am much more interested in an upright for serving due to floor space constraints. My plan would be to set it up for 4, but I'd like to eventually expand it to 8 taps, with 1 or 2 of those nitro. I know I need to look for one that doesn't have the coils running through the shelves.

The freezer will be going in my insulated but not heated garage. I will control it with an Inkbird and mount a small heater and fan in there in case it's needed in the winter. I was going to go with ball lock kegs and the kegging kit with faucets from kegconnection.

I'm just in the research stage at this point. Will probably start piecing this together after the first of the year.

Is this a solid plan or a pipe dream?

Sounds doable, just have to get the right sized unit for how many kegs you want.

IIRC, I've seen a post here where someone had done this by putting the kegs on their sides in the freezer. He drew the beer out of the gas in port and supplied gas through the liquid out port setting the kegs so that the gas port was on the bottom .

He had a lot of kegs too, at least 8 maybe more.

I run 5 taps in a commercial fridge. I can easily get 10 5g corney kegs in it. I did add a little support for the shelf.

My unit is a true model gdm 35.

I may be selling if your near Chicago. I just got a 3 keg commercial unit off craigslist that I’m building into a new bar.

Wow! I've never seen those posts, they're all impressive especially the first link from JonW's post.

I like what appears to be a computer monitor with graphical beer info for each tap, cool use of tech and very creative.

Also, the billiard ball theme is cool.

I have an upright (non-commercial) that I can fit 10 kegs in. I second the need to create a support for the shelf though!

I have had many keezers/kegerators and I am convinced upright freezers are the best solution if one is not trying to build their keezer into a bar.
