Here's my upcoming recipe. An American Pale Ale. Just a tweak of another Pale Ale recipe I brewed.

Partial BIAB
All grain double milled
Mash volume - 3 gallons
Mash temp 153 degrees
Mash time - 60mins
Mashout - 170 degrees for 10 mins
Expected efficiency 50% (but man I'll be happy :ban: if it hits 65%)

Boil volume 4gallons

2lbs 2-row pale
1lb Crystal 20
1lb Crystal 40
.5lb Carapils
4.5lbs DME (Golden Light)

.5oz Nugget @ 60mins
.5oz Nugget @ 20mins
1oz Cascade @ 10mins
1oz Cascade @ flame out

1tsp Irish Moss @15mins

OG 1.054 (@50% efficiency)
FG 1.013
IBU 37
SRM 10.21
ABV 5.4

I'd be really happy to hit 65% efficiency. We'll see. I can go as high as 70% and still be within Pale Ale specs. Hopefully the Nugget and Cascade play well together. I'll let you know how it turns out. Really easy recipe that costs about $40-$45 depending on source of ingredients. Perfect for stovetop Partial BIAB as you can get away with a 5-gal pot.

After Christmas I'm going all grain :ban: Can't wait for that. Then I'll make an all-grain version of this recipe. :rockin:

Why is your efficiency so low?? Thats really really low. You could try grinding the grain finer at the LHBS, thats usually the problem, but you say you are double grinding. Is your water very hard? Do you have better efficiency with darker beers?

My water is super hard. Really. I'm going to mix half tap half spring water to,try and cut it. Then use spring water as my top up at the end.
