I had an offer from a friend who has FREE aluminum tubing, and I wondered what the thoughts were on here about aluminum vs copper/ stainless

thanks for your help!

It'll work. It's not quite as thermally conductive as copper but it will work.

I've been wondering the same thing for some time now. Just build it the same way as with copper, etc. Then put it in boiling water for 30 minutes, the same way you would build up that oxide layer on an aluminum brew kettle. Then just be carefull how you clean it to keep tht petina on it.
Seems to me the heat transfer would be better.

I will have to give it a shot and let you all know! I feel confident with my cleaning/ sanitation, so I will give it a go!

thanks
