Howdy all,
I've been experimenting with small all grain batches BIAB. Using Beersmith, I scaled a recipe and tried to make it today. Unfortunately, the pre-boil gravity was much lower than the recipe said it should be. I'm wondering, where did I go wrong? The recipe is below:
Batch size: 1.5 gallons
Boil size: 3 gallons
3 pounds of 2 Row
12.40 qt of water at 159.5 (hit this)
Mash at 152.1 for 75 minutes (I hit ~151 after adding the grain, close enough I would think)
After the 75 minute mash, the recipe from Beersmith said the pre-boil gravity should be 1.041. I ended up with 1.016 after measuring with a hydrometer.
So, I'm wondering if I didn't scale the recipe correctly. Does the 3 pounds of 2-row sound about right for this batch? Any other thoughts?
Thanks much guys!
