Adding nutrient to my mead question!

Today is the third day of primary and when I added in the nutrient , it started crackling and bubbling up. Is this normal?

Yes, Dissolved Co2 creates a nucleation point to the dry nutrient. It can Cause a mead explosion accident (foaming out the top of the carboy). Degas before adding nutrient, and try adding the nutrient dissolved in water first.
