Hey all. I am thinking about making a cider very soon. I want to add cinnamon as I love apple and cinnamon together. I am thinking about something like apfelwein. Will it be alright to add cinnamon sticks in the primary if I do not plan to secondary? I like cinnamon, but not where it's so overpowering. How many cinnamon sticks would I add for 5 gallons?

Thanks

When I did mine I used 2 sticks per gallon. Keep in mind these were half sticks ( around 4 inch long). If you use a full stick, then just add one per gallon. It left a slight cinnamon taste. I can't remember if I added it to the primary or secondary. Try a gallon both ways.

I added three sticks to a perry recently and it was waaay too overwhelming. I'd go with just one for 5 liters.
