Adding cider to an apple ale

I bought midwests apple ale kit and I am going to brew it this weekend, and it said you can add a gallon of unpasteurized apple cider in the primary to bring it up to 5 gallons. My concern is, do I have to do anything before adding it? or just pour it in straight out of the jug I bought it in? I got a gallon from a local orchard. Thanks!
