There has to be something to it. I would go if it was recommended. Chiropractors are usually much more dialed in to new or more obscure treatments that traditional doctors wouldn't go near.

In some cultures they believe bear gall bladders & rhino horns are aphrodisiacs too. I am just not a big believer in all that stuff. I think it can possibly mentally make you think that you feel better. Maybe just not scientifically.
Just look all the placebo studies where just taking a sugar pill in many cases have just as good or even better results as the high dollar meds they are being compared to. If some Asian gentlemen gets big wood after some gall bladder more power to him :D

I've done the acupuncture thing for allergies - had some good success. And it wasn't mental (at least not entirely! :drunk: ), there was a dramatic reduction in the number of times I needed medication for about 6 months after treatment.

I went every week for about 6 monthes about 4 years ago for should pain (i was college athlete at the time and was trying to put off surgery). I did find it helped quite a bit. I wouldnt say it casused the pain to go away, but helped relax the muscles in my shoulder, resulting in less stress on tendons and that sort of thing.....

I have been wanting to do acupuncture for a little while now. I have pain in my elbows occasionally and I want to see if there is anyway it could help me. It has been around for so long that there has to be something to it IMO. However, on the flip side of that, how do you know you got a good acupuncturist? I would bet my paycheck if I went to any one of them and asked if it would help my elbow 100 out of 100 would say yes whether they knew what to do about it or if they were just randomly putting needles in my back.

My chiropractor is part of a "natural health and wellness" practice. Some of the stuff they do is pretty silly to me. BUT the acupuncture made all the difference in the success in the chiropractor's treatment. The way I describe it to people is by the bee sting story. When I get stung by a bee, I check for a stinger. If it's there, I scrape it off with a credit card. Then I slap the crap out of the skin all around the sting. By over -stimulating the pain receptors, the ache of the sting gets lost in that background. That's how acupuncture works for me. Like Cauldron7 said, it helps to relax the muscles and dull the pain. Then the chiropractor has no problem making adjustments, and I don't feel sore after his treatments. Also, I find that the adjustments last longer.
